Lightning, February 5th, 2008, Mariakerke

Dynamic situation on the evening of Feb 5th, with a strong jet, high shear and low LCL, producing winter thunderstorms of which some were low-topped supercells in a region from SE England till the very NW of Germany.

One tornado is reported in Flanders (Belgium) over the cities of Dendermonde and Lier, with damage but no injuries. Cars were displaced, roofs ripped off, etc. Coincidentally, there was a major tornado outbreak in the US in Tenesse, Arkansas and Kentucky, with over 25 people killed.

Lightning in my area was not very active, and as it often happens: I missed the best shot, a CG, partially obscured by a cloud higher up, but with beautiful branching further up, that would've been well into frame. The shutter closed microseconds prior to the discharge :(
All I could frame was some branching and a very distant CC. The first one was nearly white, so I had to tweak the RAW alot to get something out of it.

Almost full frame. The blueish coloured band on top of the frame is due to the roofwindow. I had to tilt it a little while exposing because of the increasing rain.

Extra enhanced detail from the photo above

Very distant CC. This is a minor crop from the bottom left corner of the original.
